Wayport, Inc.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Founded in 1996, Wayport, Inc. is a Wi-Fi broadband internet access provider, based in Austin, Texas. Seeking to market towards business travelers, Wayport provides hotspots in hotels, airports, and retail chain stores. Beginning 2004, Wayport has begun providing Internet connectivity to the wider community by creating hot spots in approximately 10000 McDonald's restaurants throughout the United States.

Wayport began a program in 2004, Wayport Wi-Fi World, which would work with telecommunications partners, creating unlimited-use Wi-Fi locations, paid monthly by the location itself. The telecom companies involved would be able to legally resell the services under their own brand.

Another deal was struck recently between Nintendo and Wayport, to allow Nintendo's DS system to be able to link up through the internet at any Wayport location.

Wayport has been financed, in part, by venture capitalists such as Sevin Rosen Funds and New Enterprise Associates, among others [1].
