Wayne Township is one of the fourteen townships of Auglaize County, Ohio, United States. The 2000 census found 1,591 people in the township, 788 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township.[3]

Located in the northeastern part of the county, it borders the following townships:
- Auglaize Township, Allen County - north
- Marion Township, Hardin County - northeast corner
- Roundhead Township, Hardin County - east
- Goshen Township - south
- Union Township - west
- Perry Township, Allen County - northwest corner
The village of Waynesfield is located in southwestern Wayne Township.
The township comprise 27 square miles.[4]
[edit] Name and history
Named for General "Mad" Anthony Wayne,[5] it is one of twenty Wayne Townships statewide.
The township was formed in either 1834[6] or 1836,[7] while still part of Allen County.
[edit] Government
The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.

Children in most of the township attend the schools of the Waynesfield-Goshen Local School District, although a small part in the township's southeast is covered by the Upper Scioto Valley Local School District.
Most of the township is served by the Waynesfield (45896) post office, with two small sections served by the Wapakoneta (45895) post office and the Harrod (45850) post office.
