Wayne Horkan

Wayne T. Horkan (born 1970) is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the UK and Ireland at Sun Microsystems (Sun).

Horkan lives in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham with his wife and three children.

Outside of working for Sun he is also involved with local charities, including Street UK a Community development financial institution (CDFI). He also works with local universities (notably the University of Central England (UCE)) to promote "skills for Life", the UK initiative to ensure people coming out of education have marketable skills.

Horkan has spent over fourteen years in working in Information Technology (IT), six of them at Sun, holding the position of Chief Technologist (CT), or CTO, at Sun in the UK and Ireland for the last two years.

Previously he held positions at Harrods, and was responsible for the first implementation of Harrods Online.

Horkan also spent time at the System integrator (SI) Keane Inc., and before that at an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) involved in creating Quality Assurance (QA) and Statistical process control (SPC) Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software.

He is a member of the British Computer Society (BCS), having achieved the position of Fellow (FBCS), and is a Chartered IT Professional (CITP). As such he holds a Chartered Fellowship of the British Computer Society (FBCS CITP), the highest and most senior grade of professional membership of the BCS.

He is also a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a Fellow of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and a Member of the Lunar Society.
