Wayne Byrne (born May 17, 1986 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish footballer who is currently playing for Monaghan United in the Eircom League of Ireland First Division. Wayne plays as a striker and his tall stature is a great asset.

[edit] Career

Byrne began his career at Bray Wanderers and was part of the Seagulls successful Under-21 squad. First team opportunities were limited for Byrne at the Carlisle Grounds and as a result he departed Bray to sign for Shelbourne on February 27, 2007. Byrne made his Shelbourne debut against Kildare County on 9 March 2007, coming on as a second half substitute. Byrne made a further 6 substitution appearances during his spell at the Tolka Park club but could not hold down a regular first team place. Byrne departed Shelbourne in July 2007 to sign for rival First Division side Monaghan United to give the Mons additional forward options.
