[edit] Career
Byrne began his career at Bray Wanderers and was part of the Seagulls successful Under-21 squad. First team opportunities were limited for Byrne at the Carlisle Grounds and as a result he departed Bray to sign for Shelbourne on February 27, 2007. Byrne made his Shelbourne debut against Kildare County on 9 March 2007, coming on as a second half substitute. Byrne made a further 6 substitution appearances during his spell at the Tolka Park club but could not hold down a regular first team place. Byrne departed Shelbourne in July 2007 to sign for rival First Division side Monaghan United to give the Mons additional forward options.
