[edit] Fair use rationale for WAY 1979

Use of this image to illustrate article WAY 1979 is believed to be appropriate under fair use provisions and Wikipedia fair use policy on the grounds that:

  • The logo was ubiquitous and very well known signifier of the event, so providing an illustration of the logo greatly improves the article.
  • As a signifier of an historic event, the logo no longer has any commercial value.
  • It is logically impossible to substitute a free replacement.

[edit] Fair use rationale for black swan

Use of this image to illustrate article black swan is believed to be appropriate under fair use provisions and Wikipedia fair use policy on the grounds that:

  • It represents a prominent cultural reference to black swans, both in the portrayal of the animal itself, and in the way that it leverages the emblematic relationship between black swans and Western Australia.
  • It is extremely unlikely that we will be able to find a free or suitably licensed example of a logo that uses a black swan. If a fair use image is to be used for this purpose, this one would be ideal, because it no longer has any commercial value, nor even signifies a current commercial entity.
