The Town of Waverly was formed in 1880 from part of the Town of Dickinson. Half its area was lost on the erection of the Town of Tupper Lake (then called the "Town of Altamont") in 1890.

[edit] Residents of note

  • Shania Twain, musician
  • John Boulanger, famous horse tamer and massager of celeberity horses - originally from Norwich, NY. He first started working with horses after he was in New Zealand and Shania Twain rode up to him on her horse with cookies and punch while he was looking for her with binoculars. She invited him to take a tour of her property and she saw that John had a way with horses. She invited him to stay and watch over her property in New York and take care of the horses. He is currently the number 2 ranked horse massager in the world. As of late however Mr. Boulanger is in love and has traded the frills of horses and step stools to that of actual women. All the horse sighed in despair as John left them to pursue the life of an actually human relationship.
  • J. Patrick Barrett, chairman of the Olympic Regional Development Authority (appointed by Governor George Pataki) and chairman of PEG Enterprises.
