"Wave Motion Gun" is a song by Marcy Playground, originally released on their 1999 album Shapeshifter. The title and lyrics of the song refer to a science fiction concept of an extremely powerful weapon (the wave motion gun of Star Blazers anime fame) which, after being fired, requires considerable time to recharge while leaving its user powerless and vulnerable. The song very clearly uses this as a metaphor for self-destruction via heroin abuse.
Imagery of childhood (and poppies) are prevalent in other work by Marcy Playground, such as their self-titled album.
