WaveDancers is the title of several Elfquest comics, as well as the name of a tribe of aquatic elves in the same.

[edit] Original WaveDancers series

This six-issues fully painted color miniseries was produced by the Australian studio Black Mermaid Productions (Jozef Szekeres, Julie Ditrich, and Bruce Love). After contractual differences with Warp Graphics, three more planned miniseries (which would have totaled 18 issues) were canceled, and both companies agreed that this series would never be reprinted in whole. The stories were removed from the Elfquest canon (it is now stated that they were hallucinations of the Broken One, an apparently insane member of the "New" Wavedancers). Black Mermaid Productions, the owners of the story and characters from the original WaveDancers, are developing a new property called Elf~Fin, using the characters from this series.

These characters listed below are the property of Black Mermaid Productions.

  • Ailsa (deceased) female. Soulmate of Brom and mother of Reanafel. Ailsa has long frosty white hair.
  • Ausra (deceased) female. One of the High Ones founder of the colony. She was the mother of Tentus.
  • Barmek male. Son of Kirith and Rhialdor, younger brother of Jormak, best friend of Sleia, Recognized to Reanafel. He has golden blonde hair and deep chestnut eyes.
  • Brom (deceased) male. Soulmate of Ailsa and father of Reanafel. Long black hair, green eyes and well developed beard.
  • Burdakin male. Soulmate of Zadori and father of Shoresprout. Fire red hair and purple eyes.
  • Hyfus male. Estranged soulmate of Tilaweed and father of a child, Ilora, who got stolen by the Curse. Shoulderlength ash-blond curls and bright green eyes. He has a burnished red fish-tail.
  • Inkbottom male. Son of Kadva and Shoseabee, half-brother of Sleia. Short dark brown hair and deep blue eyes.
  • Illora female. Daughter of Hyfus and Tilaweed who was stolen from the colony as a babe.
  • Irralee female. Sister of Paffa. Port colored hair and bi-colored eyes (left is brown and right is green)
  • Jormak male. Son of Rhialdor and Kirith, older brother of Barmek. He has long smooth black hair and brown eyes. Hero-worships Winnowill, whom he truly thinks is the long lost Crown, Raenafel.
  • Kadva male. Soulmate of Shoseabee, father of Sleia, possibly a lovemate of Lazik. Short brown hair and blue-green eyes.
  • Kirith female. Soulmate of Rhialdor, mother of Barmek and Jormak. She has long white-blond hair, deep brown eyes and an emerald green fish-tail.
  • Korillia female. She has long red hair and purple eyes. The lower part of her body resembles a giant octopus.
  • Lazik male. Soulmate of Shoseabee, father of Inkbottom, possibly a lovemate of Kadva. Brown curls and deep blue eyes.
  • Maron male. Lovemate of Paffa, father of Zadori and grandfather of Shoresprout. He has silver hair which he keeps braided and aqua blue eyes.
  • Paffa male. Brother of Irralee, lovemate of Maron. His hair is partly white and partly black and he has dark eyes.
  • Raenafel female. Daughter of Ailsa and Brom, Recognized of Barmek. She has long black hair and violet eyes.

[edit] 'New' WaveDancers

The storyline was started in a special issue in full colour published in February 1996, and continued in installments in the anthology series Elfquest II. When this series was discontinued, WaveDancers was left without an ending. The story thus far has been reprinted (all in black and white) in the Reader's Collection #16, also titled WaveDancers. The miniseries The Discovery appeared in 2006 and continued the storyline.
