Waterside, Derry

The Waterside is an urban neighbourhood on the east side of the River Foyle opposite the Cityside of Derry, Northern Ireland.

Historically, the majority of the local population was Protestant, but the demographics now suggest that the religions are approximately equal. ^[1]. This is in contrast to Derry's Cityside where there is a large Catholic and nationalist majority.

Most of the Waterside coucillors on Derry City Council are unionists and generally identify with the name Londonderry.

As a result of the Troubles, the Waterside's Protestant population has increased, probably caused by migration from the west side of the river. [1]

The city's railway station is in this area, and is sometimes referred to as Waterside station.
