Waternish
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bhatairnis or Waternish/Vaternish is a peninsula about 12km long on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, situated between Loch Dunvegan and Loch Snizort, and traditionally inhabited by Clan MacLeod. It contains the hamlets of Trumpan, Gillen, Hallistra, Hallin, Stein, and Lusta, and can be accessed from the A850 road by crossing the Fairy Bridge. The highest point is Ben Geary (284m). A pleasant easy walk is from Trumpan Church to the extreme end of the peninsula at Waternish Point - a good place to observe passing ships. The name Waternish is derived from the Norse "vatnenes" or "headland of the pond".
