Waterfall railway station is a Sydney railway station serving the suburb of Waterfall, New South Wales and is the last stop of the suburban section of the Illawara line. Waterfall station also provides access to Camp Coutts, a large Scout campsite. In 1994, a shunting accident involving two empty passenger trains saw one train jack-knife onto the platform, demolishing the concrete pedestrian bridge. South of Waterfall railway station is the site of the Waterfall train disaster, a rail accident that claimed the lives of the driver and six passengers on 31 January 2003.

[edit] Sidings

Waterfall has sidings for staging goods trains in either direction and a bypass track for goods trains on either side of the platforms (the 'Up and Down refuge loops'). There are also 3 sidings for the stabling of suburban electric trains to the east of the station.

[edit] Platforms/Service

The station receives approximately 2 trains an hour in off-peak, with more services in peak hours. Some South Coast line trains stop at the station, although others are usually prevented from doing so when a suburban train is terminating at the station and use the 2 outside passing tracks. Trains may terminate on either platform before returing to the city.
