[edit] Removal of this section

"The ancestors of the Foggy Swamp Tribe migrated from the Southern Water Tribe thousands of years ago [citation needed] and found these swamps. Because of all the water in the swamp, the Waterbenders felt at home and decided to stay."

I removed it is fan-made. 24.14.120.92 23:25, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Actually, its not, it appears on Nick.com. Go to http://www.nick.com/all_nick/tv_supersites/avatar2/ select the epsiode "The Swamp", select "Characters" and open the entry on Due and Tho. The nature of the site dosn't allow a direct link, but here's an exerpt:
Originally from the Southern Water Tribe, Due and Tho are both Waterbenders. Their ancestors migrated from the Water Tribe thousands of years ago and found these swamps. Because of all the water in the swamp, the Waterbenders felt at home and decided to stay.

There are some copy-vios from that page, though. I'll clean it up.--Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 15:43, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Northern Water tribe

This is just my personal opinion, but the northern water tribe city seems to be based on Venice and the culture of the tribe seems to be based on the Inuits. Richardkselby 02:09, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Everyone is making reference to Venice, which seems incorrect to me. As the watertribe as a whole seem to be Native American favoured, could it be that the Northern tribe was influenced more by Tenochtitlan rather than Venice? Just a thought. --213.35.183.31 20:13, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] References

Doesn't this page need more references? i at least added a link to http://www.nick.com/all_nick/tv_supersites/avatar2/ but you need to dig deeper into the flash interface to get to specific water tribe information.

[edit] Misleading information

This article states that as of "The Crossroads of Destiny" the Water Tribe is the only major nation left. This is, of course, incorrect -- the Fire Nation is still very much around.

That was fixed yesterday. --Herald Alberich 22:04, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Identity of polar mammal pet is disputed.

It is uncertain whether or not the pet seen in the southern tribe is in fact a polar bear or some other animal hybrid preditor. At first I thought it was some sort of tiger. --sammiteSammite 23:54, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Avatar: Escape from the Spirit World

Shouldn't the information from the game be inserted somewhere? The New Moon Celebration, when the two tribes meet?

Is anyone going to coment on this? 189.4.230.173 00:15, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Northern Water Tribe Article

If there is a Ba Sing Se article, why can't there be a Northern Water Tribe Article? Jimblack 18:49, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Jimblack

Because there's no reason for there to be. There's nothing that would be in such an article that can be done just as well in the Water Tribe article. Same isn't true of Ba Sing Se, a major location for almost half a season's worth of time. See, deciding to make an article on a given subject isn't based on how "important" it is or some such. Its based on the kind of encyclopedic coverage we can give it.--Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 19:06, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Influences

Are the water tribes based on any real life cultures or countries even? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.80.172.12 (talk) 22:09, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

The following two sentences seem like speculation based on loose association. Citation needed tag added. Please cite source. "Also, the Moon (Crescent) is the Symbol of the Muslim Religion, and most of the Muslims are dark skinned like the "Water Tribe". The water tribe represents real humans (Muslims), they rise with the Moon which symbolizes them - and symbolizes Islam." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.169.204.188 (talk) 02:50, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

If anything, the Water tribes got a lot of their influence from the Inuit people. They both live in arctic environments, there are many similarities in culture, like the use of fur and animal skins in clothing as well as construction. Many of the carvings we've seen are made of Ivory as well. Ub3rn008 (talk) 09:44, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Images

I was wondering if the images at the beginning should be upsized to 250px. The ones at the beginning of the Earth Kingdom article are 250px. Earthbendingmaster (talk) 18:31, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Wait a minute. Maybe the Earth Kingdom ones need downsized. Earthbendingmaster (talk) 23:49, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

At the NYCC, there was a very good image of the Southern Water Tribe before the attacks that took the life of Katara and Sokka's mom, they have it over at ASN. 189.60.200.72 (talk) 17:22, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Where, a link would be nice. Rau's Speak Page 18:35, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, I cannot find anything. Spent a whole half hour tearing through ASN and then Google and then Google Images. Unless I am searching the wrong terms. Maybe we should leave a message for 189.60.200.72. Parent5446 (t n c k e l) 23:32, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
