Washington Township is located in Will County, Illinois. The population was 3,948 at the 2000 census. Washington Township was formed from Crete Township and Sherburn Township on an unknown date.

[edit] Bodies of Water
Eagle Lake is a small, commercial fishing lake owned by the Beecher Sportsmen's Club on Yates Avenue. It's maximum depth is about 35 feet. Many small creeks also run through the township including the Beecher Slop Ditch, most notably known for when an elderly area gentleman accidentally backed his car into the water as he was leaving the Beecher Fourth of July Carnival.

The land to the north, east, south, and west of Beecher is mostly made up of corn, soybean, and the occasional wheat field. Even as the majority of the land is used for farming, the soil is not considered "great." The Eagle Lake Region, in the far northeast corner of the township, is somewhat marshy with some clay, which is not ideal for above average crop yields.
The farm land is generally more fertile on the west and south sides of the township

Beecher is a rural town with a population of approximately 2,900. Beecher is located in the middle of Washington Township. This small, rural village sprouted up along a railroad like so many other little towns across the Midwest. Although, still considered small, Beecher has grown a lot recently. Within the last six or seven years it has seen a poplulation increase close to 1,000 with the developments of "The Projects" on the northeast side of town, and some other new housing east of Knuth's Country Market.
Route 1 runs right through the east side of Beecher. This main highway is considered the bread and butter of Beecher's business district. With fast food places like Subway and McDonald's, and local establishments such as Tony's, Aurelio's, and Maxwell's, Beecher has become a suburban hot spot for eateries. However, no one establsihment delivers as much of an economic impact as Buddy's. Buddy's is a family-friendly ice cream and sandwich place that gives Beecher its identity. After recreational and high school baseball games many players and fans have been known to ascend upon Buddy's for a nice cold treat on a hot afternoon.
Located in the northeast region of the township, is the small village of Eagle Lake. Known most for the Beecher Sportsmen's Club, Eagle Lake is a happy little village of only about 25 people. A beautiful little, white country church, St. John's Lutheran, sits on a hill about 3/4 of a mile up the road to the north.
