State Route 512 (SR 512) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Washington, originating at Interstate 5 in Lakewood and ending in Puyallup at State Route 167. A four lane freeway its entire length, SR 512 is heavily used for people to travel from the Tacoma area to Puyallup and the surrounding towns. The freeway originally ended at State Route 7 and then was extended to Portland Avenue. Its final expansion included portions being built into the Puyallup Valley, through the town and all the way to SR 167. Traffic is very heavy during rush hour due to many people commuting to I-5 and SR 167 for work. Putting in HOV lanes has been mentioned many times in order to combat the heavy traffic.
