Washington Area Music Awards

The Washington Area Music Awards (also known as the Wammies) are a music award for Washington, D.C. area performers, issued by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA). The awards are issued at an annual awards program.

According to WAMA, "The Washington Area Music Awards recognize significant career achievements by area musicians. Nominations and balloting come from the WAMA membership. Past show participants include Emmylou Harris, Joan Jett, The Clovers, The Orioles, Bo Diddley, Jorma Kaukonen, Jimmy Dean, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Ruth Brown, LaVern Baker, Sweet Honey in the Rock."[1]
