Washingborough
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Washingborough is a small village three miles east of the city of Lincoln on the lower slopes of the limestone escarpment known as the Lincoln Edge where the River Witham breaks through the Lincoln Edge.
It is the point on the River Witham at which the Fens begin.
The Fens were first drained by the Romans. The Roman Car Dyke ran from Washingborough to the river Nene, near Peterborough.
There are three local pubs in the village, The Royal Oak, The Ferryboat and the Hunters Leap. The Ferryboat have two local football teams which include Boro Park Rangers.

As well as the three pubs (all much improved by the lack of smoke, with two of them providing regular live entertainment from local bands), four takaways (Indian, Pizza, Chippy & Chinese), thriving uniformed youth groups,(the yearly Scout open activity day includes canoing in the river, a climbing tower, bouldering wall ........ & a plethora of craft activities) a village preaching cross (called the War Memorial by the ignorant - the War Memorial is actually in the Parish Church, which is worth a visit), and good fishing in the river. Narrowboaters will find conveniant mooring, with the nearest pub (The Royal Oak) a 5 minute walk away.washingborough also has a large park in which children play and many people take nitro cars.
