Warrior Leader Course

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Warrior Leader Course (or WLC), formerly Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), is the first course of study in the US Army Non-Commissioned Officer Education System. It is open to: Privates First Class and Specialists selected to attend the Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC); Specialists and Corporals qualified for promotion; Sergeants and Staff Sergeants who have not graduated WLC.[1] The next level of education is Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course (BNCOC), followed by the Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course (ANCOC).

WLC is a four week course that begins the Army's Non-Commissioned Officer Education System (NCOES). Graduates are awarded the NCO Professional Development Ribbon. The course of study is non-specific to the soldier's military occupational specialty (MOS) and covers many basic leadership skills.[2] Students are graded on Physical Fitness Training, Individual Skills Training, Drill and Ceremony, Land Navigation, Leadership in garrison and the field, and a written examination. The course ends with a Situational Training Exercise (STX) in the field with hands-on training. There are abbreviated two week versions of this course that are offered to Army Reserve and National Guard Soldiers and to support rapid deployments of Active-Duty Soldiers. Sergeants are required to attend this course before consideration for promotion to Staff Sergeant, or are given a temporary waiver.
