War of the Insane

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The War of the Insane (Guerre du Fou) was the name given by the French colonial administration in Indochina to the revolt by the Hmong from July 1918 to March 1921. This war was fought in Vietnam and Laos, when Pa Chay Vue led a revolt which aimed to set up a kingdom with its capital at Dien Bien Phu.

Following the murder of local Laotians by Hmong warriors, expressly forbidden by Pa Chay, the French authorities paid some Laotians to assassinate Pa Chay. His death brought the war to an end.
