I think the best thing is to delete this using one of the WP:XD methods. That way the content and history are available to whoever wants to turn this into an article, and we don't need long discussions at Afd or Drv. However I've not done this yet, as I imagine people who were interested in this may want to edit (or at least read) it for a little while. If a few days go by and this still isn't an article, I'll probably XD it. Friday (talk) 15:17, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

I also thought this might need some work, but didn't have much time to do it. According to the Polish wiki article (which is also cleanup-tagged, BTW), the institution is notable for being probably the only privately-owned fire brigade back then. After WWI the state nationalized it, but the Warsaw's authorities sued the decision, won the trial and the Bde remained a private venture, with the status of municipal guard. I'll try to make an article out of it, though most surely it would be based entirely on the Polish wiki article, so don't ask me questions about sources :/
BTW, the "Warszawska Straż Ogniowa" does not exist any more (war, German occupation, then Commie occupation), so it does not have a phone number ;) Halibutt 16:24, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
As promised, I expanded the article, though further cleanup is badly needed (my grammar...). BTW, the story about the fire prevention unit using its cars as flamethrowers is quite notable in itself, I doubt any of the constructors ever thought of such purpose for their cars... :) Halibutt 16:03, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "first permanent fire service"

Was this phrasing meant to mean that it was first formed as a permanent fire service in 1834? Or is there a specific meaning implied by "fire service", as opposed to fire department, fire brigade, or the like? Or is this the first permenent fire service in Warsaw, or in Poland? It's certainly not the first ever anywhere; even cursory googling turns up services in operation since 1795 and 1826. —Cryptic (talk) 00:58, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
