[edit] The Building
Warden Park, being built for approximately 600 students, is too small for the number of pupils who attend; and therefore the corridors at key points in the day (break time and the gaps between lessons) are over-crowded and difficult to navigate without getting crushed. To facilitate the large number of students, the school has recently built a new maths block, located next to and connected to the old language and LRC block.
[edit] School Uniform
The school uniform consists of:
Boys:
Navy blue blazer with Warden Park crest, plain black poly/viscose school trousers, plain “cornflower blue” formal shirt (polycotton), school tie, plain navy blue ‘V’ neck jumper with Warden Park crest (optional), plain dark socks and sensible black shoes.
Girls:
Navy blue blazer with Warden Park crest, plain black poly/viscose knee length skirt or straight-legged school trousers, plain “cornflower blue” formal school blouse (polycotton), plain navy blue ‘V’ neck jumper with Warden Park crest (optional), plain dark socks, black or natural tights and sensible black shoes.
[edit] Extracurricular Activities
Many special activities, day excursions and residential visits are arranged to add to the educational experience of students. These include:
• Special enrichment activities and master classes for able students.
• Language study visits to France, Germany and Spain.
• Ski coaching opportunities and adventure weeks.
• "Appreciation Visits" - Art Department.
• Field visits - various departments, including art, science, geography, history and technology.
• Many theatre visits, including a trip to Stratford on Avon - English Department.
• An annual introductory visit to an opera.
• The annual expedition for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
• Adventure Week for Year 8 in France.
• A variety of visits linked to careers.
• An enrichment week in the summer when the normal timetable is suspended.
Warden Park organises an extra curricular programme each year that includes:
Archery, Art, Athletics, Babysitting (Red Cross certificate), Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Cross Country, Dance, Drama, Duke of Edinburgh, Enrichment Courses, Food Technology, Football, Hockey, Information Technology Languages Club, LRC (break, lunchtime and after school), Netball, Orchestra, Peer Support, Revision Classes, Rounders, Rugby (boys and girls), Soccer, Squash, Stoolball, Table Tennis, Technology, Tennis, Theatre Visits, Warhammer, Year Books and Young Enterprise.
The Warden Park hockey team won their league in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and has consistently done well in swimming, cricket and rugby due to the athletic teaming of Ross Chisholm (on of PE teacher Mr Chisholm) and his friends.
The whole school and chamber orchestra were dispanded on the leaving of the much loved head of music Mr Fielder in 2005. In their place were the much less successful wind and string groups, which struggled to get the numbers they needed.
[edit] Teaching
Teaching varies both between deparments and according to the teacher. Some teachers like the legendary Mrs Price, are wished for when the new timetabling comes out each year. The science department in general is very good, as is the English department. The maths department varies.
[edit] The Houses
There are four houses, which are Beacon, Forest, Combe, and Downs. Historically, Forest and Beacon are the most competative and the ones that tend to win all the cups. Each year a new house team is selected from the year 10 students, who will lead the house for the summer term of year 10 and the autumn/spring term of year 11.
