Talk:War Chant
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The FSU Marching Chiefs make take credit for the War Chant, but they didn't originate it. They merely popularized it. The War Chant actually began with the James S. Rickards High School Marching Band; Rickards' mascot used to be the Redskins (they switched to the Raiders in recent years, for the same reasons the NCAA got rid of Native American mascots at most of their institutions). The school is also located in Tallahassee, Fla., same as Florida State, and so it's very common for Rickards graduates to move on to FSU. One such student, a Marching Redskins member, graduated and took the War Chant with him to FSU's Marching Chiefs. Not unlike how the War Chant was adopted by the Atlanta Braves when Deion Sanders graduated from FSU and began playing for Atlanta. Nolefan32 18:48, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
