[edit] War / Peace
I think for a better understanding of war, a reference to peace ought to be included in the introduction of the War portal. Brz7 01:05, 15 March 2007 (UTC) Maybe it would be an idea to start a Peace portal? (Portal:Peace) --Brz7 23:38, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Rationale for inclusion of note on ant-war-behavior
An article point referring to "ant war behavior" was recently deleted with the comment, "not relevant". I find the only other instance in the Animal Kingdom of "war behavior" to be quite notable and relevant. By noting the "war behavior patterns" of another species, this might enable us to better understand the "war behavior patterns" of our own species. Unless we rename this portal to "Human War", I think that to delete the only other major type of "war behavior" found on this planet, simply because it might de-glamorize "human war behavior" to amount to a certain type of censorship. The author Thoreau found this paradox, that humans and ants were the only two species that behave like this, to be quite notable (and amusing). Why can't we? -Scott P. 12:19, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
- Meh. It seems, to me, that emphasizing what is essentially trivia—war is studied fundamentally a human phenomenon, not an animal one that humans happen to engage in—isn't a good idea; but I don't really feel strongly enough about it to press the issue. Kirill Lokshin 16:24, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

- I agree with you that few study the "animal aspects" of war. However, it seems to me that just because they may be unpopular, does not mean that they are irrelevant to the phenomenon. The study of sex was unpopular until Freud. The study of evolution until Darwin. Still the former unpopularity of these study topics never rendered them irrelevant to the human condition. -Scott P. 18:48, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

- I also think war behaviour of other animals is an aspect of what war is and should be referenced on the War portal's introduction, not extensively though: we humans (anthropocentrist view) mainly associate war with war between humans. BTW, an interesting link between humans and non-human animals is the use of animals in human warfare (Military animal). --Brz7 23:36, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
