Welcome to the Warhammer Portal!
Welcome to the Warhammer Portal! Warhammer is a table-top miniatures game produced by Games Workshop. The game depicts combat between the armies of the fictional Warhammer universes using 28 mm scale (approximately 1:65) miniature figurines which represent soldiers, fighting Gods, creatures and vehicles of war. The rules of the game have been published in a series of books, which describe how to move miniatures around the game surface and simulate combat in a balanced and fair manner. Games may be played on any appropriate surface, although the standard is a 6 ft by 4 ft tabletop decorated with model scenery in scale with the miniatures. There are also Role-play and other versions of Warhammer, most notably, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and other countless spin-offs. Tyranids are a race in the fictional Warhammer 40,000 setting, the Tyranids are a nomadic alien race comprising many genetically engineered forms. They are the "Great Devourer" and are the "most alien race" in the Imperium of Mankind. They are an "elemental force" that seeks to consume all in their path, draining all planets of any possible resource with horrific speed. Tyranids were first described in Rick Priestley's Rogue Trader, the first edition of the Warhammer 40,000. At that time, they were not an emphasized race in the game, instead representing a limited number of occasionally-encountered alien antagonists. In later editions the Tyranids became a playable race in their own right, popularized by a number of successful board games. The Tyranids are all of a basic genetic stock, characterized by six limbs, both an endoskeleton and an exoskeleton, external skeletal features distinct from an internal skull, five carapace plates on their head and a series of spiracles on their heads and at the base of their tails. Tyranids are controlled by a gestalt metaphysical entity thought to emanate from, and exert cohesive control over, all Tyranid individuals through psychic manipulation. The Imperium calls this the "Hive Mind". In terms of the terrestrial Tyranid's encounters with other species, generally in conflict, the Hive Mind is explained as filling the roles of social hierarchy, linguistic communication and military command and control as used by other races. Steve Jackson (born 1951 in Manchester, England) is a games reviewer and writer. He is one of the best known authors in the gaming industry. In 1975, he founded the company Games Workshop with Ian Livingstone, and the two created the line of the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks published by Penguin Books. Jackson now works at Lionhead Studios, which he founded with Peter Molyneux. He is also an honorary lecturer at Brunel University in London, teaching the Digital Games Theory and Design MA. ....that Nemesis Crown is a massive narrative campaign created by Games Workshop for their Warhammer Fantasy (setting). The campaign will revolve around the various Warhammer Fantasy races trying to obtain the Nemesis Crown in all-out warfare, similar to the "Fall of Medusa V" Warhammer 40,000 online campaign.
