Using Commons for images
Hi. Nice photos of Diran. Can I suggest that you upload your photos to Commons instead of here? In that way, your photos can be easily re-used by the other language wikis without individually uploading them to each language site. You use the same image syntax when referring to them. If the server cannot find the image locally, it automatically searches Commons for them. If you have any questions, let me know. RedWolf 08:16, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
- Hi. All you need to do is go to Commons and register. Then you can upload images like you do on the English wiki site. Keep in mind that you cannot upload fair use or non-commercial use images to Commons. RedWolf 00:32, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

Commons
My email address is my Wikipedia username at gmail dot com. Please provide as much info as you can about the images. When and where they were taken, what they depict and what camera you used and of course how you want to license each of them. - Mgm|(talk) 12:43, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
- The commons only accepts free images, NO fair use or otherwise copyrighted material. So your options are basically PD, GFDL or a compatible Creative Commons license. - Mgm|(talk) 07:48, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Airblue P1050431.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Airblue P1050431.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Stan 04:05, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Sallam & Hi Waqas,
I recently saw you have added new images to your website, may i suggest you upload the following ones to the Wikipedia Commons database under the Pakistan Transport Section..
At the moment there are no photos of ISB, so i suggest uploading these ones; http://airport.fotopic.net/p27053549.html http://airport.fotopic.net/p27054645.html http://airport.fotopic.net/p27054644.html

Wikipedia:Wikiethics
Hi,
We started a proposal Wikipedia:Wikiethics to state the existing policies coherently and make suggestions on improving the editorial standards in Wiki. I thought you might be interested in contributing to that proposal.
Unfortunately, a pro-porn and pro-offense lobby is trying to make this proposal a failure. They unilaterally started an approval poll although almost no one including me believe that it is time for a vote, simply because the policy is not ready. It is not even written completely.
Editors who thinks that the policy needs to be improved rather than killed by an unfair poll at the beginning of the proposal, started another poll ('Do we really need a poll at this stage?') at the same time. The poll is vandalized for a while but it is stable now. A NO vote on this ('Do we really need a poll now?') poll will strengthen the position of the editors who are willing to improve the ethics policy further.
If you have concerns about the ethics and editorial standards in Wiki, please visit the page Wikipedia:Wikiethics with your suggestions on the policy. We have two subpages: Arguments and Sections. You might want to consider reviewing these pages as well...
Thanks in advance. Resid Gulerdem 22:30, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
List of airports in Pakistan
I created this list with help of many other contributors. I usually create a new page from that list every other day. Hopefully all airports on this list will have their pages at the end of this months.

Why not "Center" an image?
Hi RE http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Northern_Areas%2C_Pakistan&action=history, why not center an image? The image is very small and doesn't look good in the current resolution. (The link was a mistake) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Waqas.usman (talk • contribs)
- The main reason for not centering an image is that it looks out of place when all the other images are right-aligned. If someone was to read an article, the best effect is when the text is not broken up by images but the images are at one side. I've been meaning to try to find a better image to replace that one anyway but I've not had the time. Also please sign your talk page messages using four tildes ~~~~ which will automatically insert your username and time and date. Green Giant 21:51, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, you mean you weren't satisfied with the layout of the page in that particular case, I thought you were "prohibiting" any image to be centered :) (I forgot to sign it on the first message, and came back to write more and sign it, but forgot it again :P)
- I have some images of my own from Nanga Parbat but don't have time to sort them out and upload. Waqas.usman 22:02, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

- Yeah, sometimes an image is so good, it has to stand out. As an example, look at the Paris article and the first thing you notice is the big Eiffel Tower image at the top. If a good image of Nanga Parbat was available, I would have no objections to making it stand out. Green Giant 22:05, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Copy and Paste
I am creating airport stubs and there may be more info than is required to be a stub. It may be referred as copy and paste and the false info sounds little harsh and infers dishonesty. I planned to go to back and clean these airport stub pages once all of them have been created. I am creating one per day on average. I will remove more info from the stub. The next on the list is Air Bases of Pakistan Air Force. May be we can work to clean that page.

List of mountains in Pakistan
hi usman, in Wikipedia they are lowercae i.e. "List of something in Foocountry" not "List of Something in Foocountry". Furthermore, don't copy pages to new names, because by doing so you break the availability of the edit history. I reverted you copy-paste move. best regards Tobias Conradi (Talk) 11:21, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- I think the process to merge the pages is started. Next time use the move-function meta:Help:Renaming (moving) a page. :-) best regards -- Tobias Conradi (Talk) 03:51, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Picture/name for Passu Sar
Waqas--thanks for creating the Passu Sar page and finding the nice picture. However, as I noted at Talk:Passu Sar, it's really a picture of the nearby peak Shispare (with Ultar Sar in the foreground). I'd like to move it to the Shispare page (which needs a picture anyway) and recaption it, but if I do that I would also like to tell the originator of the picture that I have done that. I thought you might prefer to tell him, since you contacted him already. Or I can do it, it's no problem---I just didn't want to step on any toes. Let me know.
Also, most references I have for the peak use only one "s", i.e. "Pasu Sar". These references are various reasonably authoritative maps, plus climbing literature such as the American Alpine Journal. If you have a better source that gives "Passu", let me know; otherwise it might be best to switch it back to "Pasu". -- Spireguy 21:55, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Spireguy, this message was burried under the load of other messages and went unnoticed until today. Thank you for the correction. Have you notified the originator of the picture?
- As for the spellings Pasu vs Passu, I have always seen it spelled as Passu by the locals (although I don't claim that most locals use this version of the spellings, because I didn't research it). If you compare Google search results, Google Search Pasu gives no relavent result in top 9, and the 10th is also in some other language, which mentions "Khunjerab Pass" as "Khunjerev Pasu", whereas Google Search Passu gives several relavent results on top. Waqas.usman 22:44, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification on the spelling. Sounds like keeping it Passu makes sense. I did just contact the originator of the picture, and I haven't gotten anything back yet. I'll wait a few more days, and then move the picture regardless, but hopefully he will reply. -- Spireguy 13:43, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Waqas---thanks for moving the picture. I added a more explicit caption. -- Spireguy 16:05, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for the caption! I'm adding the pic to Ultar page as well (because it doesn't have a pic yet). Waqas.usman 06:24, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English
Thank you for commenting on سلام! You asked how best to help. I think it is best to add some translation information to the page together with a deletion tag if you believe the result to be not worthy of inclusion. The admin reviewing the deletion request (usually either through a speedy deletion template (WP:CSD) or through a proposed deletion (WP:PROD)) can then make a more informed decision on whether or not to delete the article. Thank you, Kusma (討論) 03:45, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you, Kusma. How do I highlight or format the explanation I enter so that it becomes prominent that this part is the explanation of the article? what's the standard? Waqas.usman 04:03, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- As the page will most probably be deleted, it is perfectly acceptable to just write on the page itself. Your comments can then be removed if the article is kept. And you can write a reason into the {{prod}} tag, which I just did for you. Thanks again and please come and check WP:PNT every now and then (we have far too few people who can read Persian script), Kusma (討論) 04:08, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
Chilas
Then it is چلاس I did not remember the spelling of Chilas and may have not double checked it. Thanks. Siddiqui 15:37, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
The categories for NA
Excellent work, the whole area needs a thorough overhaul. I think the best place for the PTDC article whould be in Category:Tourism in Pakistan. As for the Category:Forts in Pakistan I would suggest it should go to Category:History of Pakistan but keep it in Category:Pakistani architecture as well because the forts have historical and architectural importance. I also agree with the new better-named categories for NA regions etc. Green Giant 23:07, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- I've fixed the infobox, references and districts for Azad Kashmir and moved text around so geogrpahy has only geogrpahy and history has only history. I'll try to do some more tomorrow. Green Giant 01:09, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Northern Areas
Honestly speaking, Northern Area categories are in bad state. There is a lot of work needs to be done. I found Northern Areas category deleted. Can you tell me when and why it was deleted. --Spasage 05:53, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- Please consult before changing categories. check dicussion pages, or related materail. --Spasage 07:13, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- Why you want to merger of Northern Areas, Pakistan and Gilgit Agency? They are overlapping but it does not make them fit for merging. I think we should have two separate pages and in See also section, link them with each other. --Spasage 07:37, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Coordinates of Mountain Peaks
Hi, I was creating new pages for highest peaks of Pakistan and I saw this image you updloaded, can you please provdie the coordinates of these mountains? Please reply on my talk page, Thanks.Waqas.usman 15:57, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- All coordinates are on my List of highest mountains site, which I see you've already discovered. I've taken a break from mountain peaks for a while, but recently received a series of better maps for the Karakoram, so there may be some changes coming, including the order of the peaks, and therefore the numbers on the image (though most of the coordinates probably are quite accurate already).Afasmit 06:13, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- Oh ok thanks, but I was looking for co-ordinates of several other peaks as well, peaks that are not in the list of highest mountains. What is your source? Waqas.usman 06:20, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- After locating them on a topographical map, I find their coordinates using the satellite images provided by terraserver and google earth (lately I've been using the latter mostly, since it came out for Mac). Bit of a monk's job, but satisfying to see the maps usually corresponding with nature very nicely. Afasmit 19:36, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Baltoro Glacier/Concordia
Waqas---regarding the Baltoro Glacier article, here is what I wrote on that Talk page: I notice that the reference to the "Concordia Region" has been put back in. To my knowledge, Concordia only refers to the the point of confluence of the Baltoro and Godwin Austen Glaciers. (Sources: multiple maps of the region, climbing literature such as American Alpine Journal.) It is not the name of a region. That's why I changed the reference in the first place, and why I changed the Concordia, Pakistan article as well. So I would suggest reverting back to the version which describes Concordia just as the confluence, not a region. If there are definitive sources to the contrary, please comment; otherwise I'll revert or re-edit this eventually. I don't want to step on any toes, but I do want it to be correct. -- Spireguy 14:32, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Snow Dome disambiguation
Hi. You recently disambiguated Snow Dome but you copied/pasted the original text to create Snow Dome (Canada) rather than doing a page move which is the standard approach. By using the copy/paste, we have "lost" (technically not) the correct page history for Snow Dome (Canada), which was the original text of Snow Dome. You also did not enter a comment for the edit summary when you created the article, which adds to the history confusion. I don't have time at the moment, but I will probably delete your creation of Snow Dome (Canada) and do the page move so the correct page history can be preserved. RedWolf 19:33, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hi RedWolf, it was a mistake, I did realize it later, but I couldn't figure out how to revert it quickly and fix it. Sorry for the trouble :) I see that it's been fixed now. Waqas.usman 04:49, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
Good Work
You are doing work by adding details and clarifying info in many pages. I just created many stub pages. I do plan to go nback and info in those pages. Instead of making comments it would advisable to concentrate on one's work.
Siddiqui 22:19, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
- What is this policy of dumping bulk of unformatted, unverified (often false) text onto new pages first, and then planning to go back? Why don't you admit your mistake that you're writing false info? Why don't you verify it before writing? Why not format it before saving the page? I try to concentrate on my work, i.e. adding more info, but your bogus info articles are hindering me, they're every where, from Chilas airport to Kaghan Valley, and ski resorts to National Parks. At least admit that it was wrong and don't do this low quality addition any more. I'll highly appreciate it. Waqas.usman 22:30, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- Please send me list of articles/page that needed to be updated. The source info in many cases may have been wrong. In my view, you should try to be diplomatic and discreet with your objections. Next time, I would have to double check the info and do more cross checking.

Categorising images in Pakistan Commons
Thanks for uploading some photos, would love to see more..
To answer your query, i would prefer if you found the category in the Pakistan Commons section http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Pakistan that suits your image and place the category in the message box when you upload your image.
For example, lets say your uploading an image of a PIA Boeing 747, in the Pakistan commons category there is a sub category called (Category:Transportation in Pakistan) put this into your message box with and brackets. Once the image had uploaded the image will automatically be placed in the transportation of pakistan category with the other images there. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Transportation_in_Pakistan .I have done some for you the ISB airport ones.
- Why are you changing from Hill stations in Pakistan to Hill stations of Pakistan? Is there a dicision taken somewhere else, which I dont know, or you want to change cat name? --Spasage 12:28, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- I don't remember which one you're talking about, I was fixing many categories that were wrongly tagged, some places were tagged as "Category:Hill stations in Pakistan" whereas this category didn't exist. Now I see that both the previous categories still exist (albeit empty), but there's a new "Category:Hill Stations in Pakistan" that has been populated :|. I think it should be with small letters, "Hill stations in Pakistan", as it existed before. Waqas.usman 22:30, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
