Wapserveen

Wapserveen (52°50′N, 6°13′E) is a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Westerveld, and lies about 21 km northwest of Hoogeveen.

In 2004 the town had 760 inwoners. In 2001 the built-up area of the town was 0.11 km², and contained 121 residences.[1] The statistical area "Wapserveen", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 880.[2]

In his last years former minister of agriculture Sicco Mansholt lived here. He was the president of the European Commission in 1972. He was the European Commissioner for Agriculture between 1958 until 1972. He was about the most important person in the agricultural revolution of Europa.
