WAPA (680 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a News Talk Information format. Licensed to San Juan, Puerto Rico, USA, it serves the Puerto Rico area. Its call letters are a partial abbreviation of the station's original owners, the now-defunct Asociación de Productores de Azúcar, or Puerto Rico Sugar Grower's Association. In the late 60's, it was acquired by Hertz Corporation. The station has a famous show which is regularly broadcasted at 9:00 am, "Dándole casco al tema" (thinking through the topic), in which the owners discuss with the listeners political topics. Another popular show is Opine Usted ( Express yourself), in this show listeners are given 1 minute and 30 seconds to analyze the situation of the country. The station is currently owned by Wilfredo Blanco Pi, and his son Jorge Blanco. Some unsuccessful political movements such as the Rossello for President of the Senate, Rossello for Governor 2008 and the write inn started with the recommendations of the Blanco Pi family.
