Wanyan Honglie(完顏洪烈) is a character in the wuxia novel Legend of the Condor Heroes written by Louis Cha.
Wanyan Honglie was the sixth prince of the Jin Dynasty. In the novel, he was first mentioned in the first chapter, to be a young man who was injured badly in a fight between the Jin soldiers and Qiu Chuji. Bao Xiruo, the wife of Yang Tiexin, happened to spot him lying wounded in the snow. She took pity on him and brought him back to the house, where she treated his wounds. She did not mention anything about the man to her husband. Later, the man was said to have disappeared mysteriously.
Shortly after, Song government troops led by Duan Tiande came to the Niu Family Village, where Guo Xiaotian, Yang Tiexin and their families resided. Duan claimed that Guo and Yang were under arrest for treason. A fight ensued between them, in which Guo Xiaotian was killed in battle, his wife Li Ping captured by Duan Tiande. Yang Tiexin was presumed dead while Bao Xiruo, heavily pregnant with Yang's child.
She met the young man again later, who said he was called 'Hong Lie'. She was very distraught and saddened by the loss of her husband, but Hong Lie comforted her and offered to escort her safely around. She noticed that Hong Lie was not an ordinary man when he had plenty of money with him and even had the power to order Song officials around. Eventually, Hong Lie revealed himself to be the sixth prince of Jin, with the real name Wanyan Honglie.
Wanyan Honglie brought Bao Xiruo back to his residence in the Jin capital city and Bao Xiruo eventually agreed to marry him and allow her child to acknowledge Wanyan Honglie as his father. In fact, Wanyan Honglie had fallen in love with Bao Xiruo upon first sight when she rescued him from near-death at the Niu Family Village. He had ordered Duan Tiande to kill Yang Tiexin and Guo Xiaotian for revenge, and at the same time, act as a hero to 'rescue' Bao Xiruo and win her heart. Eighteen years later, Bao Xiruo happened to meet her husband Yang Tiexin, who was still alive and had changed his name to 'Mu Yi'. Wanyan Honglie found out about it and tried to stop his wife from leaving with her ex-husband by leading his troops to pursue them. Bao Xiruo eventually committed suicide with her ex-husband.
Wanyan Honglie had been involved in the politics of the Jin Dynasty, such as acting as an envoy from Jin to Mongolia, to meet Genghis Khan, as well as to Song. He tried to stir up conflict between Mongolia and Khwarezm, but when Mongolia defeated Khwarezm, he was captured. Guo Jing was a general of the Mongolian army and he wanted to kill Wanyan Honglie for revenge as Wanyan Honglie was the mastermind behind the deaths of his father Guo Xiaotian and Yang Tiexin. Wanyan Honglie eventually committed suicide.
