Wanman (ワンマン運転 Wanman unten?)means One-Man-Operated/OMO, it is the term used in Japan for driver-only operation (DOO) of trains and buses. Wanman trains are often designated by a green sign on the front of the train reading wanman (ワンマン?) in white katakana. The term wanman is the katakana transcription of one man. DOO trains and buses are operated by a single person, hence the term one man.
On rural lines where stations are unmanned, wanman trains also feature bus-style fare indicator boards and fare collection machines next to the driver's cab.
