This is a Chinese name; the family name is Wang.

Wang Quan'an (Chinese: 王全安; pinyin: Wáng Quán'ān) (b. 1965[1]) is a Sixth Generation Chinese film director. Wang was born in Yan'an, China. He graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 1991.

Unlike many of his contemporaries, who focus on urban life, Wang's films emphasize China's rural life. Wang has directed three films thus far. His next film, Fang zhi guniang (literally Woman Textile Worker) will take him to familiar territory, exploring working class female experiences in modern day China.

Another project, entitled Bai Lu Yuan (literally White Deer Plain) is also currently in development, though Wang has made it known that he would like to cast fellow director Zhang Yimou in the lead role.[2]

[edit] Honors and awards

Most recently, Wang was awarded the prestigious Golden Bear at the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival for his film, Tuya's Marriage. The win constituted only the third time a Chinese film had been awarded the Berlinale's top award, after Xie Fei's Woman Sesame Oil Maker and Zhang Yimou's debut film, Red Sorghum.[3]
