Wanda Cochran

Wanda Cochran (born March 29, 1923 - died March 4, 2008) was an American lyric opera soprano.

Born in East Grand Rapids, Michigan, she won a scholarship to attend the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago; she graduated with an M.A. in Music.

Her first role was in the original production of Oklahoma! on Broadway as an alternate in the lead role of "Laurey". She went on to appear in the musicals Irene (touring in Europe), and, back in New York, in the original production of the classic musical Brigadoon.

She married Robert H. Rose and moved to Europe in 1948. They had a son, Harrison Rose (who predeceased his mother) and a daughter, Miarka Rose Mazur.

She appeared at nightclubs and cabarets in Paris. She became a regular soloist with the Metropole Orchestra in The Netherlands. she moved to England and performed in many concerts, recitals and oratorios. She returned to New York in 1968.

She died from undisclosed caused on Tuesday March 4, 2008, several weeks before her 85th birthday. She was survived by her daughter, a granddaughter, and her first husband, Richard Rose. She was predeceased by her son and her second husband.
