[edit] Notability of Parka (band)
A tag has been placed on Parka (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. -- JediLofty User ¦ Talk 10:51, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Parka (band) article deletion
Hi there. Thanks for your note. If you're going to create an article you need to do a number of things:
- Ensure the subject of the article is notable. Wikipedia:Notability gives an overview of this policy, and there are a number of specific pages that deal with asserting notability of particular article types (you might want to read Wikipedia:Notability (music)). You said that "Parka are a notable band- or at least are becoming one" (my emphasis) - the "becoming one" part worries me, and you probably need to be aware of WP:CRYSTAL. Saying that a band is "going to be the next big thing" isn't justification for having an article - they need to already be the next big thing! ;-)
- Make sure you have plenty of reliable third-party sources. Take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources, Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Reliable sources. MySpace, Blogs and wikis are not suitable sources, because they don't require thet their contributors check their facts before posting them. A band's website also isn't a great source, because it is a Primary Source (see Wikipedia:PSTS).
- Always write from a neutral point of view. Wikipedia:Neutral point of view is the policy that describes this. Saying that a band is "absolutely amazing" is not okay... saying that they have "three UK number one singles" or that they "were voted "most amazing band" in the Teen Hits Magazine annual awards" is okay!
- Avoid conflicts of interest. Wikipedia:Conflict of interest describes this. Basically if you have ANY involvement with the subject of an article you need to be even more careful that you follow the above guidelines! For example, I used to work for a company called Serverware Group plc. I created their article but was very careful to ensure that I established their notability (I indicated that they wrote the product that became Microsoft Operations Manager), I used reliable sources (every paragraph has at least one footnote to an article written by someone else about the company, and I didn't mention that Microsoft bought both SeNTry and ECM for use in their datacentre in Redmond - I know it is true because I worked there when the deals went through, but it's not published anywhere, so I couldn't include it) and that I kept it neutral (nowhere do I say what great products the company makes!)
As for whether your Parka article is gone for good, an Administrator might be able to restore it for you. Why not ask on the discussion page of the editor who deleted it and they might be able to assist.
I hope that's not too overwhelming, and if you need any help, please feel free to ask! -- JediLofty User ¦ Talk 09:13, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Parka (band) article...
Hey, I was wondering if there is any way to recover the text of said article so I can edit it and bring it up to standards? I talked to the person who marked it for deletion and they explained to me where I went wrong in sourcing it, etc, and I was wondering if there was a way to recover it... I thought I'd ask you, since you're the dude who actually deleted it. :)

- Hi Wannabe rockstar. Yes - I have userfied it to User:Wannabe rockstar/Parka (band) (your "userspace"). You can bring it up to standards (use WP:BAND as a guideline for what is needed) and then move it back into articlespace. Hope that is helpful! Neıl ☎ 09:42, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
