Technical quality: Medium

  • Occasional breath-on-microphone "pops" early in the recording. See the recording guidelines for suggested solutions to this problem.
  • Minor background noise, or "hiss" throughout the recording. This could be removed with light use of noise reduction, as described in the Removing noise section of the recording guidelines.
  • Some editing noise is present where the recording process was stopped, then started again. I can hear where the edits are because of clicks and changes in background noise level. Noise reduction applied to the entire recording, as mentioned above, would probably remove the background noise completely, making the edits much less noticeable.
  • The recording has been encoded to Ogg Vorbis at 160 kb/s, and with two channels (stereo) instead of one. See the recording guidelines for the recommended settings. Most audio editing software will allow you to mix down two channels into one. If you're only using one microphone, you only need one channel (mono) in the recording. Having two just makes the recording twice as big, because there are two identical copies of your voice in it!

Clarity: High

Accuracy: High

  • Section "Rivalry with Chiang Kai-shek": the text "...much to the chagrin of his associates. Wang believed that China needed..." has been read as one sentence, without the full-stop/period.

Help with recording issues can be obtained under "Recording assistance" here.
Information on the assessment procedure can be found on the spoken article assessment page.
