Walterinnesia aegyptia is a species of venomous elapid snake, also known as the Desert Black Snake or Desert Cobra. It is the only species within the genus Walterinnesia. They are native to arid and scrubland habitats of the Middle East and can be found in the countries of Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. W. aegyptia is entirely black in color, and has highly shiny scales.

A survey of the literature revealed only a few clinical cases reported. Most of the information concerning W. aegyptia was collected from laboratory and animal studies.
