Walter George Tarrant

Walter George Tarrant (8 April 187518 March 1942) was a builder born in Brockhurst, Hampshire, England. He was responsible for constructing excellent housing in Weybridge, Byfleet, Pyrford and Virginia Water

In 1895 he set up his own building company in the town of Byfleet and in the early 1900s built extensively in Pyrford, West Byfleet and Woking. in 1911 he bought 964 acres of Surrey scrubland from the Egertons, the family of Lord Ellesmere which he developed into the St George's Hill estate. His company went into receivership in 1932 as a resul of The Depression. However Tarrant Builders Limited, the building arm of the company, persisted and work on St George's Hill continued until the 1940s.

Tarrant died in 1942 as a result of of a coronary thrombosis.
