Walter Barnett is a character in the fictional world of Marvel Comics's Transformers comic.
Barnett is employed in the US government's Intelligence and Information Institute (III) office. The III's job in the comic is mainly to try to protect humans from the menace of the Transformer robots. Originally, Barnett saw all Transformers as a threat to humans, just like the rest of the III did. But as he was once witnessing a conflict between the Autobots and humans, G. B. Blackrock showed him that even though the humans were firing on the Autobots, the Autobots were not fighting back at all. Barnett learned about the difference between Autobots and Decepticons and was convinced that the Autobots were on the humans' side.
Barnett later struck a deal with Donny Finkleberg, a former comics author who had recently been fired because of the low sales of his work, and co-operated with him to create the character Robot Master as a way of avoiding panic among the United States citizens.
When the Throttlebots were judged to be destroyed, Barnett saved their minds by removing the "brain" components from their bodies and inserting them into toy racing cars owned by his son. The original bodies of the Throttlebots were crushed, but the Throttlebots survived as toy cars, and were later involved in a battle against the Decepticon Ratbat in a shopping mall.
