Walter B. Pitkin

Walter B. Pitkin (February 6, 1878 – January 25, 1953) was an American author of self help books in the 1930's. His most famous work was Life Begins at 40 (New York, Whittlesey house, McGraw-Hill, 1932). Other notable works include: A Short Introduction to the History of Human Stupidity (which was translated into fifteen languages) and The Pychology of Happiness. Full name is Walter Broughton Pitkin (from Worldcat).
Born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Pitkin was father (by Mary Gray Pitkin) to five sons: Richard G., John G., David B., Robert B., and Walter Pitkin Jr.. He later married Katherine B. Johnson.
Pitkin died in Palo Alto, California.
