Walditch is a small village in West Dorset, England. It is by the east of Bridport, a market town.
Walditch has a Real tennis court, the site of which Henry VII of England played during his visits to the area.
The name Walditch is derived from an older term Waldyke. As implied by the name the village is located in the valley of a curved hill that encompasses the village, the hill has a dry stone wall still partially inplace, which continues over towards the village of Bothenhampton.
The village no longer has stated member of clergy; the last person to fill this role being the Rev. Maureen Alchin, who was a local figure.
Walditch is composed of Old Walditch (The original Walditch) and lower Walditch, a housing estate built around 1998.
In recent years the desirability of the village as residance has greatly increases and many younger families haved moved to the area. This is unusual when compared to the area of West Dorset, famous for its high property prices.[citation needed]
Walditch formerlly lay within the Hundred of Godderthorne.
