Waldemar Levy Cardoso (born December 4, 1900), the son of Jewish immigrants from Morocco, is currently, at the age of 107 years, the only living field marshal of the Brazilian Army. He is a veteran of World War II mentioned in dispatches. As a lieutenant colonel, he served in Italy as the commander of an Artillery battalion of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force.
