Walter Whitley, a native of Cleveland, Ohio and now resides in Washington, DC. He received a Bachelors of Science degree from Boston University in Broadcasting & Film Production. He now works for the premier newsgathering outlet for providing fair & balanced news to America and the world as the Edit Coordinator for the DC Bureau of FOX NEWS.
Walter has a long history of community service. He is a member of 100 Black Men of Washington, DC, Inc. where he served as Public Relations Chair from 2003 – 2005. He was instrumental in establishing and maintaining a solid relationship between the chapter and local media. Walter put the organization’s motto of “Real Men Giving Real Time” to practical use when he created an alliance with the DC Chapter of the Junior League sponsoring Holiday parties for the Pediatric AIDS Ward of Children’s Hospital. 100 Black Men educate and empower youth and their families while positively impacting communities. Walter currently serves on the Health & Wellness Committee and is involved in the Annual Family Day Health Fair and volunteers in support of this committee on the local and national level. In addition, Walter is committed to the intellectual development of youth and the economic empowerment of the African American community based on the following precepts: respect for family, spirituality, justice, and integrity.
Walter also serves as a member of the Host Committee for the overwhelmingly successful Ummah Endowment Fund’s Annual White Attire Affair HIV/AIDS intervention campaign. As a member of the Host Committee, his efforts go above and beyond making sure the event raises funds for the organization, but gives strong testimony to the belief in the need to not only raise awareness of the devastating havoc this disease continues to wreak on our community, but also to spread the message of hope so that we all might LIVE longer, healthier and more productive lives! Walter served as Donations Chair for the Ummah Endowment Fund Fashion Lives, an annual fashion show benefit in the Washington metropolitan area in recognition of HIV/AIDS Awareness. Walter has raised thousands of dollars for AIDS awareness and research by participating in Washington, DC’s Annual AIDS Walk and continues to give generously to Washington’s Whitman-Walker clinic.
Walter is currently the Public Relations Director for the Leadership Development Institute for the Eastern Region of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The Leadership Development Institute provides high school students a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills in a university atmosphere through intensive and exciting workshops, lectures, small group discussions, interactive seminars, tours, and recreational and cultural activities that engage and educate participants. Walter is integrally involved in the planning, implementation and success of this program. Participants have been groomed and trained to assume roles in the future as leaders and good citizens throughout their communities. LDI reaches out to the brightest and best and instills leadership qualities and skills that will assist them in becoming tomorrow’s leaders today. For 100 years, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated (Walter is a member of Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity) has been the hallmark of leadership development, providing our nation and the world with leaders whose talents have contributed immeasurable value to humanity and civilization.
