Walter Murch was also a very intelligent film theorist and also co-wrote THX with George Lucas while studying at USC.

What Subjects did Walter Murch study while learning to become a film editor and sound mixer. I know the universities he went to, but not the actual courses taken.

• I don't know what courses he took, but he did not study film as an undergrad at Johns Hopkins, but at USC as a grad student. He majored in romance languages, specifically French and Italian. He has always stressed to me (his daughter) that it is important to get a liberal arts foundation and life experience. The technical aspects of film are easy enough to learn and don't really need that much study. It is life's richness and experience that help you make good films. Technical is only technical and is not the heart or soul of art. Blmurch
