[edit] Fought in World War II

  • The source quoted notes that he fought in North America.

I will change it back until there is a source that quotes it as North Africa. Bothar 12:55, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

The text shows that he received monetry donations in 1945 for travelling expenses while competing in Britain. This sould read 1953. This was the year he competed, won and broke records for the London to Brighton (September 1953) and Bath to London (October 1953) and also for the 24 hour run at Motspur Park (November 1953)

With reference to the discussion above regarding where he fought during WWII, he served in North Africa and fought right up into Northern Italy. He was with the Railway Construction Company attached to the South African Engineers Corps.

His medal of bravery was the British Empire Medal awarded for bravery for actions near El Alamein in Egypt in 1942.
