The station was assigned the call letters WXDZ on 1989-10-12. On 1989-12-05, the station changed its call sign to WBKL, on 1991-12-06 to WDRK, on 1997-11-21 to WMXP, and on 2004-03-10 to the current WAKT-FM.[2]
