Waingels College (previously Waingels Copse School) is a co-educational comprehensive secondary school located in Woodley, Reading, Berkshire, England. It has a population of 1,500 students but may rise due to overcrowding in the area and an appeals process which now has to take place. Over 400 people apply for entry annually, though there are only 270 places available (a rise from 240 in previous years). The school has specialist status as a Mathematics and Computing College.

[edit] Refurbishment
The school recently won a grant of £30 million to perform a full school re-build as most of its buildings are only temporary classrooms.
[edit] Learning communities
In September 2006 the school was split into six main learning communities (or houses). Each learning community has its own colour and role model:
- Astor - White, first Millionaire
- Rowling - Yellow, after the famous Author.
- DaVinci - Blue, after the Artist.
- Holmes - Red, after the Olympic Gold Medalist at Long Distance.
- Turing - Black, Famous Mathematician.
- Brunel - Green, Creator of the Great Western Railway.
[edit] Extra-curricular activities
Although particular departments (such as maths and science) run classes for specific groups of students, the vast majority of activities after school are open for all. Examples of sport clubs are:

- Football (Wednesday)
- Cricket (TBC)
- Multi-sports (Thursday)
- Basketball (TBC)
- Hockey (Thursday)
- Table Tennis (Thursday)
- Water Sports (off site) (Wednesday)
- Dance (Wednesday)
Waingels wishes for each student to find something that they enjoy doing, so art clubs (Tuesday), science club (TBC), debating groups (Thursday), ICT related clubs (TBC) and drama classes (Tuesday) are also run.
[edit] Sporting achievements
The P.E. department at Waingels encourages students to take part in many extracurricular sporting activities such as football. Their main rival is The Bulmershe School, located on the other side of Woodley, as it is a specialist Sports College.
