Waimauku

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Waimauku is a small locality in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It is in the Western Ward of the Rodney District. Waimauku is approximately 6 kilometres north of Huapai on State Highway 16 at the junction with the road to Muriwai Beach. Waimauku is a Māori word which is literally translated as wai: stream and mauku: varieties of small ferns.[1]

Formerly a farming and fruit-growing locality the area around Waimauku now features a number of wineries and an increasing suburban/lifestyle block population.

The Auckland Regional Council has announced that rail services are to be extended to Helensville for a trial period late in 2008.[2] . This is intended to include a stop at Waimauku.[3]
