It contains Waiheke Island, but not Rangitoto.? Rubbish. Both of these islands are in the Hauraki Gulf, and neither are in the Waitemata. GrutnessGrutness talk 01:09, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Can it take Panamax ships fully laden?

According to this (page 5), the Waitemata port is one of five Panamax-capable ports in New Zealand, the others being Taranaki, Lyttelton, Tauranga and Otago. Both Tauranga and Auckland have some post-Panamax facilities.[1] -- Avenue 13:57, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
