Major General Waheed Arshad is the current Director General Planning at Chief of Army Staff Secretariat and the former Director General Inter Services Public Relations. On January 15 2007 he was replaced by Major General Athar Abbas as the new DG ISPR.[1] [2][3]

Waheed Arshad was commissioned in Armored Corps of Pakistan Army in 1975. He is a graduate of Command and Staff College Quetta, National Defence College, Islamabad, and Turkish War Academy, Istanbul. During his career, the Major General Waheed has had a varied experience of command, staff and instructional appointments at various levels. He served as Brigade Major of an Independent Armored Brigade Group and remained on the faculty of Pakistan Military Academy Kakul, School of Infantry and Tactics, Quetta and National Defence College, Islamabad.

He commanded an Armored Regiment, both Armored and Infantry Brigades, and a Mechanized Formation. He has also served as General Staff Officer Grade-1 and Director Military Operations at Military Operations Directorate. He holds masters degrees in Political Science, in War and Strategic Studies from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and diploma in Turkish Language from National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad. On April 9 2007, Arshad was installed as Honorary Colonel of the Regiment of Armoured Corps popularly known as AL-MUGHIRAT.[4]

As of January 15 2008, Arshad has been appointed the DG Planning at COAS Secretariat. This post was established by the former Army Chief General Jehangir Karamat. Major General Khalid Kidwai (who retired as Lieutenant General and chief of Strategic Planning Division) and Major General Ahsan Saleem Hyat (who retired as General in his capacity as VCOAS) held the appointments of DG Planning in the past.[5]

Waheed Arshad is married and has three children.
