Webster's Third New International Dictionary (unabridged) gives "[origin unknown]" after the fish name wahoo, and it lists the exclamation separately. Wikipedia should not pretend to confirm speculative etymologies. Joel (talk) 00:41, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

The Hawaiian Dictionary (1986) lists ʻono for 'delicious' (from earlier *kono), but ono for the fish (from earlier *ʻono. In the Hawaiian language ancestral *k changed to /ʻ/, then *t changed to /k/. In Polynesian languages, these two words are as different as English cone and tone. Joel (talk) 00:56, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
