Wadden Sea National Parks
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Wadden Sea National Parks are located along the German coast of the North Sea. Actually they consist of three national parks:
- Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park, comprising the western coast of Schleswig-Holstein and including the North Frisian Islands
- Hamburg Wadden Sea National Park, extending from the mouth of the Elbe river to the tiny bird islands of Neuwerk and Scharhörn, part of Hamburg
- Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park, comprising the northern coast of Lower Saxony and including the East Frisian Islands
These national parks are divided from each other for administrative reasons, but they form a single ecological entity. The purpose of the national parks is the protection of the Wadden Sea ecoregion.
