Talk:W Ketchup

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have removed the statement about W using Indonesian Child Labour as there is no reference and I have found nothing to support the statement. If you can find a source change it back and reference it!

What.......the...hell?

Yes, unfortunately it's real. Too many Americans equate "listen to other countries" with "hate freedom". JIP | Talk 06:48, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

is this a hoax? does it still exist? the next time I'm at the grocery store I shall look! looks like a hoax, or a publicity stunt.. the offical page has no press past 2004... --Kvuo 01:36, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

It was only a gimmick for the 2004 election I think. The Ungovernable Force 06:55, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Some clarifications I felt needed to be made: Teresa Heinz Kerry is not the heir to the Heinz fortune; her family sold most of their share in the company years ago and they (not she) now only have a 4% interest. The "W" does not refer to Washington or Bush, it officially refers to Washington. Finally, the Heinz company does not outsource its American ketchup overseas; it owns foreign factories because it sells a lot of ketchup (made from perishable stuff like tomatoes) in other parts of the world. According to its web site, it's not in stores yet, only available online, and I think you have to buy at least four bottles at a time. --BDD 16:49, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I met the guy who invented this gimmick

Among other things, he told me that it was made in Mexico. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Niczar (talk • contribs) 20:45, 18 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] My recent edits

If the opinion that I removed can be sourced to something that discusses it in the context of W ketchup, then we can reference it. If a news article discussed the opinion of the "W" people and then sought to respond to their criticisms of Heinz, we can reference that. If not, it's not our job to respond on behalf of other people. Croctotheface 04:13, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Actually, that's exactly what the Snopes reference was for. But it doesn't source the criticism to W Ketchup, and I couldn't find anywhere else that did, so I took the whole thing out. -- Zsero 17:50, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
I think that their critcism of Heinz is probably includable, though I'm OK with the editorial judgment involved in saying that it's an unfair criticism. The current version is much improved. Croctotheface 17:54, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
If you can find something sourced to W Ketchup directly criticising Heinz for being a global manufacturer, by all means put it in, but I couldn't find anything like that. W boasts of being "all-American" but as far as I can tell it doesn't criticise Heinz for being something else. -- Zsero 18:26, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Well then, even better. Croctotheface 18:33, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
