Art From Your Elbow is the first EP release and third release overall by multinational jazz-noise conglomerate Desert Island Dicks, credited to Desert Island Dicks vs. The Fuckist International. It was jointly released in 2008 by British independent label Amoebic Productions and Australian netlabel Glitch City.
The subject matter of the record concerns the Stuckist art movement, which according to a press release accompanying the record and attributed only to "Dick #12", the Desert Island Dicks consider to be "a disingenuous publicity stunt designed to promote a school of mediocre technique-slavery by claiming it as more "spiritual" and "genuine" than other work that tries to experiment and innovate".[1]
The cover artwork is based on Stuckist painter Charles Thomson's 2000 work Sir Nicholas Serota Makes an Acquisitions Decision. The face of Tate Gallery director Nicholas Serota is replaced with Thomson's own, while the captions "Is it a genuine Emin (£10,000)" and "...or a worthless fake?" are replaced with the extended band name. The large pair of red knickers at the centre of the painting is labelled with the words "Figurative painting movement".
The title is a pun on a British idiom for a clueless person, one who "doesn't know their arse from their elbow".
